Henry Cuellar Faces Indictment from Justice Department

Allegations Remain Unknown

Cuellar and His Wife Deny Wrongdoing

Henry Cuellar, a Democratic representative from Texas, is expected to be indicted by the Justice Department, according to sources familiar with the matter. The indictment is expected to be announced later Friday, but the charges against Cuellar remain unknown.

In a statement released on Friday, Cuellar denied any wrongdoing and expressed confidence that he and his wife, Imelda, would be cleared of any charges.

"I am innocent of the charges against me. I will fight these charges with everything I have," Cuellar said in the statement.

Cuellar has been a member of the House of Representatives since 2005 and represents the state's 28th Congressional District. He is a member of the House Appropriations Committee and the House Committee on Small Business.

The Justice Department's investigation into Cuellar has been ongoing for several months. The investigation is focused on allegations of corruption, but the specific charges against Cuellar are not yet known.

If Cuellar is indicted, he would be the first sitting member of Congress to be indicted since former Illinois Representative Daniel Rostenkowski in 1994. Rostenkowski was eventually convicted of corruption charges and sentenced to prison.
